The veining in this natural howlite creates what looks like a heart of barbed wire, with a tiny brass bat perched right over it.
 
And that bat isn't simply glued on! A hole was drilled through the howlite and a post that's soldered to the back of the bat passes through the stone, mechanically securing it in place. The same technique I use for my stone on stone designs, so it isn't going anywhere.
 
Set in sterling silver with a decorative bezel and hand forged hinge bail.
